A casino bonus that says “100% up to $500” sounds like free money. It is not. Almost every bonus comes with a wagering requirement: the amount you must bet before bonus money (and anything you win with it) can be withdrawn. Understanding this one number will save you more money than any slot strategy.
A wagering requirement is written as a multiplier, for example 35x. It tells you how many times you have to bet the bonus (or sometimes the bonus plus deposit) before you can cash out.
You deposit $100 and get a 100% bonus, so you have $100 cash and $100 bonus.
Same headline, double the work. Always check whether the multiplier applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus.
Every bet has a built-in house edge. On a slot with 96% RTP, the average loss is about 4% of everything you wager. So the expected cost of clearing a bonus is roughly:
Expected cost = total wagering x (1 – RTP)
| Bonus | Wagering | Total bets | Expected cost at 96% RTP | Expected value of bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | 20x bonus | $2,000 | $80 | about +$20 |
| $100 | 35x bonus | $3,500 | $140 | about -$40 |
| $100 | 40x deposit + bonus | $8,000 | $320 | about -$220 |
These are averages over many players. Some will win big, most will not. But the table shows why a smaller bonus with low wagering, or cashback with no wagering at all, is often worth more than a giant headline offer.
Free spins winnings are normally credited as bonus money with their own wagering, for example 40x the amount won. If 50 free spins win $20, you may need to bet $800 before withdrawing. More in our guide to free spins mistakes.
Take a bonus if the wagering is low (under about 30x on the bonus only), you like the eligible games, and you are happy to play for longer. Skip it if you want fast, simple withdrawals: playing with cash only means you can cash out any time. Rewards with no wagering, such as the daily rebate and cashback at Bet25, are the easiest value to use.

Anything at or below 30x the bonus is reasonable. Below 20x is good. Zero-wagering offers are best.
Often only partly, or not at all. Check the game weighting table in the bonus terms.
Usually yes, but the bonus and bonus winnings are forfeited. With a non-sticky bonus you can keep your cash winnings.
